my 2010 resolutions

i cross posted this everywhere. (whatever. you love it.)

1. become more cuddly
2. make more money
3. go on legit vacation with said money
4. stop making fun of arson's stamp collection
5. go vegan (again)

these are all difficult resolutions, but i promise to try.

MegaMix: Track 3 & 4

1. R. Kelly - Ignition Remix
2. Outkast - Hey Ya!
3. Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell & Uncle Charlie Wilson - Beautiful
4. N.E.R.D. - She wants to move

i love snoop. and that pharrell beat is sick. the song always reminds me of summertime. it makes me want to do some stoop/rooftop drinking.

pharrell kills it with beats and basslines. especially with n.e.r.d. in 'she wants to move.' funky and very edgy.

MegaMix: Track 2

1. R. Kelly - Ignition Remix
2. Outkast - Hey Ya!

outkast is awesome. it was hard to choose which song to put on the mix, because they released a ton of amazing stuff. but, 'hey ya' rose to the top. the song became ubiquitous to the point where it's now a staple at weddings. am i sick of this song? yes. i heard it way too many times. but i still like it.

now, go shake it like a polaroid picture.

MegaMix: Track 1

1. R. Kelly - Ignition Remix

this is a phenomenal way to start. in fact, i think the MegaMix should be called "The Show, The After Party and then The Hotel Lobby. " r. kelly peaked and crashed in the 2000s. hmm, should dave chappelle's "piss on you" be added as well?

december theme: songs of the 2000s

i liked doing november questions last month. it was fun. let's do it again for december but with something completely different.

it's almost 2010. it was an interesting decade for music. please tell me what should be on the 2000-2010 MegaMix. the megamix can have shitty AND awesome songs on it. the only criteria is that the songs must be from this decade.

ready? set. go!

arson's favorite song

don't deny it arson. you love reggaeton. i saw that sparkle in your eyes when they played it at the plow and stars. (or however they spell it)

it took me a while to figure out who sang this song, but now that i know. oh man. i now have a new song to play when arson is grumpy.

(the video is NSFW by the way.)

WTF

today, youtube recommended steve perry - oh sherry. i don't know how they could make such a mistake. i hate this song so much. i especially dislike the mid-song guitar solo. now this will be in my head for at least 3 months.

running is awesome

on sunday, i ran the rothman institute 8k. it was really exciting and i had a blast. xoxo running. it was my first official race since cross-country in high school, which is almost 10 years ago. back then i averaged an 8 or 9 minute mile, so my 10 minute mile for this race is pretty awesome!

i'm definitely ready to try a half-marathon now. probably in the spring. the 8k was too much fun to not do again. (although i will need a better ipod mix next time around.)

November Questions: Question 9

Joe asked: "why do i have such a hard time getting up in the morning?"

it sounds like you have a pork deficiency. if you increase your pork consumption, especially in the morning, i think things will improve.

Photobucket

November Questions: Question 8

Anonymous asked: "So, do you prefer the "straight clay aiken" type, or are you more of a "stoner harry potter" kinda gal?"

oh man, can I have both? that would be a phenomenal hybrid. stoner clay potter and i could produce attractive children with magical singing voices.

happy anniversary arson

it's been three years since gay men introduced us at a dive bar. that night i accidentally dumped beer down my jeans, asked for your hand in marriage and boxed your ears in a slap boxing match. and you still called me the next day. i'm so glad we found each other.

30 Questions of November: Question 5

Stuart said "Let the homosexuals marry, I say. Your thoughts?"

Agreed. I'm not pleased about Maine. I really wish gay marriage could happen by changing a few pieces of paperwork and not by propositions or referendums. It would be simple and cost effective to just add another box to check on a marriage license. Our system is too complicated. These campaigns are just hemorrhaging money. The issue seems to be snowballing with each state.

But, I do think Grover got it right when it comes to marriage...

30 Questions of November: Question 4

Stuart asked "will i ever forgive you for getting the "the touch the feel of cotton" song stuck in my head?"

i think a better question is, will you ever forgive me for getting this stuck in your head?

thanks for your recommendation, youtube

i love it when youtube tells me what to watch. sometimes they are spot-on. and sometimes they are just ridiculous. here are some of their suggestions for me today:

radiohead covering the smiths

will smith - will2k

prodigy - firestarter

Nena - Irgendwann

30 Questions of November: Question 3

Stuart asked: "Why do people litter, buddy?"

- laziness
- a lack of concern for the environment
- a penchant for squirrels

30 Questions of November: Question 2

last night arson could not stop singing "the touch of cotton" commercial as sung by aaron neville. he asked that i add it to ephemera. it's more of a request than a question, but i'll play. here you go arson...

30 questions of November: Question 1

Joe asked "How can I figure out whether my marijuana use is causing my depression or my depression is causing my marijuana use?"

this is a tough one. at first glance i thought this was rhetorical. similar to "if a tree falls in a forest ..." type question. marijuana and depression seem inextricably connected. but i think you can solve this one mathematically. you just need another variable.

x + marijuana = depression
or
x + depression = marijuana

x = ?
marijuana = 1 lb
depression = 0

Based on my calculations, x = a Giants loss. it's possible that x can equal other stuff too, but right now it's definitely the Giants.

let's play 30 questions

i'd like to do 30 entries in 30 days for the month of november.

how to accomplish this? plz ask me questions. there are 30 days in november, so it would be awesome if you asked me 30 questions. one for each day. thx.

guidelines: please keep questions in english. feel free to ask anything. even really awkward questions.

discussion topic: will smith - switch

released in 2004, this track is different than will smith's other work. why? i spied a timbaland in there. will has better flow in this track. and a better bassline. it's not jiggy or miami. a little edgier but with that same commercial appeal. i like.

just the song:

video which will probably be disabled soon:

oh my god we're back again...

oh hey, i've been busy lately and forgot to blog. what am i doing?

i love jokes about gorillas

A gorilla walked into a bar and ordered a beer. The bartender was amazed to hear the gorilla speak, but brought him a beer anyway.

The gorilla finished the beer and handed the bartender a twenty dollar bill. The bartender just couldn't believe that a gorilla knew anything about money, so he only gave back one dollar in change.

"Hope you enjoyed your beer," he said to the gorilla, "We don't get too many gorillas coming in here."
"At nineteen dollars a beer," said the gorilla, "it's no wonder."

i cannot stop watching/laughing at this

"The Wise are Who They Are"

"There are things about ourselves that we need to get rid of; there are things we need to change. But at the same time, we do not need to be too desperate, too ruthless, too combative. Along the way to usefulness and happiness, many of those things will change themselves, and the others can be worked on as we go. The first thing we need to do is recognize and trust our own Inner Nature, and not lose sight of it. For within the Ugly Duckling is the Swan, inside the Bouncy Tigger is the Rescuer who knows the Way, and in each of us is something Special, and that we need to keep."

odd dream

odd dream last night:

a lady asked me to walk her bulldog while she was away. she said he wouldn't be much trouble to walk because of his older age. i agreed, but a mean german shepherd attacked the bulldog. i screamed and yelled at the german shepherd's owner to control her dog, but she couldn't hear me. the german shepherd bit the poor bulldog on the face, and i couldn't get control of the german shepherd's leash to pull him off of the bulldog. when the other owner finally realized what was going on, it was too late. the bulldog was very hurt and i felt awful. the dream moved on to other things, but i felt really sad, guilty, and a failure as a dog-sitter.

after typing it all out, i know what this dream means. i didn't at first, but now i do. it was pretty disturbing though! i really like german shephards, too. this dream would have made more sense if it was about a mean akita. akitas cannot be trusted.

what did you do this weekend?

- friday night airport goodness. stuart the travelmonster landed in philly around 1am from south carolina and borrowed the car for a funfest in delaware. i consumed a ridiculous amount of caffeine and had a lovely time listening the the disco radio station and driving to south philly. i heart road trips of any distance.

- saturday morning: ran 5 miles. i am adequately trained for the badges of honor 5K this upcoming saturday. it is in south philly/fdr park area. i get a free tshirt and arson promised to bring wallace and come cheer for me.

- saturday afternoon: greek festival - cheap eats, huge portions and really delicious. i especially loved the loukoumades. arson liked the souvlaki. there were whole lambs roasting on a spit! we wanted to bring lamb home for wallace, but it was not ready for carving. bummer.

- saturday night: wine and such with arson's high school biffie. we went to moriarty's again. everyone who was not named lola firmingham got sick and vowed never to go to moriarty's again. WIN.

- sunday afternoon: arts & crafts fest at penn's landing. my favorite jewelry designers, loyalty and blood had a booth. i bought two really awesome necklaces and restrained myself from a pair of earrings. i also ate blue water ice and had blue teeth for at least 30 minutes. it was great.

- stuart the travelmonster returned with the car on sunday afternoon. we ate food. it was nice. then he left, which was not nice. after all the excitement, arson and i retired to the couch and watched the science of sleep. cool visuals. weird plot. weird stuff. not really my type of movie. not sure who would like that type of movie, actually.

- and now work. bleh.

beards that i like: the jack sparrow beard

i really dig dudes with facial hair. moustaches, beards, little chin hair, excessive sideburns. i tend to like guys that could easily pass as lumberjacks. i've been trying to convince arson zarley to grow facial hair. but since it's all "hipster" and "cool" to have a beard, he won't do it. (and that makes you even more of a hipster, arson... you won't get an ironic beard because they lost their irony.)

but i digress... at arson's suggestion, i will now devote some of my blog to facial hair. to start things off, here is the awesome captain jack sparrow beard. it's long, twisty and beaded.

movie review: body of lies

i watched body of lies last night, starring leo dicaprio and russell crowe. instead of telling you what i think, i'm going to insinuate it with a series of questions. let's have at it.

- why was this movie so long?
- why was the ending so anticlimactic? he bought vegetables. that's not even good enough to warrant a *spoiler alert*
- is this why i fell asleep?
- wouldn't russell crowe's character be better played by richard dreyfuss?
- do you really need that many vaccination shots for rabies? if so, why haven't i been vaccinated 18 bajillion times?
- are we supposed to believe that leonardo dicaprio can easily pass as middle eastern with a simple change of hair color and facial hair? this reminded me of team america.
- why do i want to watch this again? i feel like i missed things. there was a lot going on.

shamwow guy v. chompy hooker = hooker win?

vince shlomi, of slapchop and shamwow fame, was busted for felony battery of a prostitute in a south beach hotel.

"According to an arrest affidavit, Shlomi met Sasha Harris, 26, at a Miami Beach nightclub on February 7 and subsequently retired with her to his $750 room at the lavish Setai hotel. Shlomi told cops he paid Harris about $1000 in cash after she "propositioned him for straight sex." Shlomi said that when he kissed Harris, she suddenly "bit his tongue and would not let go." Shlomi then punched Harris several times until she released his tongue."

half-assed movie review: burn after reading

burn after reading started off on a great note. i dig john malkovich a lot, and his character completely slayed me. (frances mcdormand is pretty cool too.) but i got distracted while watching this movie and eventually fell asleep. so i didn't actually finish it. (besides, i pretty much gave up after i saw george clooney's chair invention.)

anyway, did people like this? is this a "good" movie? should i try again? cause at this point, i'm ready to send it back to the netflix gods with 1 star.

hearts and stabs

hearts
- snow!
- infomercials. i didn't know i loved them until arson zarley pointed this out. whenever we watch tv, i have to pause and watch things, like the time life motown collection.
- reading terminal. that place never ceases to please. stuart firmingham visited yesterday, and we had a lovely time wandering the place and eating muffins.
- muffins from reading terminal
- another fantastic episode of tool academy. vh1, you rock.

stabs

- the recession. fix ya life.
- people who spit and throw garbage on the sidewalk. i had to pry a disgusting piece of chicken out of wallace's mouth the other day. one might say "teach your dog not to each garbage off the street" and they would be right. i am part of the problem here. but the little guy is 4 months old. he eats anything. and littering is wrong.
- the location of my cubicle at work. it sucks. i might get less distracted if i moved my desk to the rooftop bar at vango.
- does anyone else remember old britney? i think i miss her. don't get me wrong, i heart new britney. i just loved old britney too.

"stop having a boring tuna. stop having a boring life"

movie reviews

arson zarley and i had a very movie weekend.

1. zack and miri make a porno
i like that this was filmed in pittsburgh. i also like the actors. but whoever wrote, edited and directed this film (ahem, kevin smith) really blew it. the movie made sense only after watching the deleted scenes.

2. how to lose friends and alienate people
i didn't dislike this movie, but i didn't fully enjoy it either. maybe it was snaggletooth? it probably was. although, it made me laugh out loud and i definitely plan to use the phrase "Elephants" to get me out of awkward situations from now on.

3. the descent
i don't know if we technically "watched" this movie. it was more fast forwarding until the creepy monsters came on screen, then hitting play. crawly zombie monsters = pretty awesome.

- when the lady in the cube next door swears and yells at people. it's amazing. she is so quiet and then BAM! it's all eff this and eff that. she once threw a ruler. it was awesome.
- warmish february weather
- wallace, the adorable little hell beast
- my newly acquired iphone. HOW DID I LIVE WITHOUT IT? SERIOUSLY.
- related note, iphone applications... restaurant locator, bathroom finder, notes...
- sleeping

pet peeves:
- people who use the word squirel as a verb. as in "he is squireling that money away"
- the position of the computer on my work desk
- sidewalk hoggers
- kmart on market and 10th. i just accidentally bought expired salad dressing from this godforsaken place. not a week expired but 3 months. that's ridiculous. i will give stores have a 2 week grace period when it comes to expiration dates. but 3 months???
- the new sirens on all the ambulances. wow. loud.
- potential iphone issue: drunk emailing. i wrote a collaborative drunk email with my friend this weekend. we were having a conversation that we didn't want to forget, so we wrote an email to ourselves. WHY? NEVER DO THIS.

i love you, tool academy

have you seen vh1 recently? please start watching immediately. vh1 clearly stopped caring and will air anything. it's GENIUS. i can't handle the awesomeness of tool academy. it's everything i've ever wanted from reality tv, and more.

thank you, vh1, for making my dreams come true.

update on things and/or stuff

- sorry for the sparse posting. blogging is difficult when a 3 month old cairn terrier is pooping on your rug.

- i have a love/hate thing going on with my job.

- when the virus ate my old compy, i lost portishead's third album. this makes me blue, as the record is amazing. must trudge though snow this weekend and visit aka records to buy a hard copy of the album. screw itunes.

- stuart, plz come visit philly and meet the dog before he is full grown. you've got to see how tiny he is in person. wallace fits comfortably in a small backpack.

- i am throwing a valentines day ice cream social at work. the flyers are awesome and i'm really looking forward to making my own sundae. hell yeah.

- do you have any friends/contacts at DC think tanks? of course you do. let's network.

have some kylie...

movie review: no reservations

last night, wallace and i watched no reservations. i was in the mood for a light and predictable romantic flick, so i assumed this movie would bring that to the table. (look! i made a pun!) but it didn't. the plot is semi-adequate and the casting is terrible. aaron eckhart is really awesome in thank you for smoking. but as a whimsical and unpredicatable chef? meh. perhaps i couldn't get over his awful hair. and don't even get me started on CZJ. blech!

say hello to wallace

on new years eve, i picked up wallace from the airport. hes pretty awesome.

wallace enjoys purina beneful, eating shoelaces, pooping on the christmas tree and being carried around. wallace dislikes sleeping in crates, cold weather and the word no.
