run with me

i've started training for the philadelphia half marathon in november. it is 13.1 miles of fun. for the most part, my running has been limited to the williamsburg bridge. it's a nice base to start from, but significantly less than my goal of 13.1 miles.

the philly marathon website has this nice little run planner that helps you create running trails around the city. this morning, i created a nice run of 4.2 miles. unfortunately, i made it about 3.5 miles before my knee called it quits. stupid knee! but i did run past billie holiday's old house and a smelly old graveyard that most likely has colonial settlers in it. i do like the historical stuff here in philly.

movie review

last night i watched you don't mess with the zohan.

the trailers were VERY misleading about the plot of the movie. i was expecting a variety of dumb sandler-esque jokes and a plot largely based on hair styling. but, it was almost all vulgar sex jokes. the jokes that weren't about sex were about hummus or they were the ones showed in the trailer. lame. here's the trailer.

there were some funny parts to the movie, and there are a lot of decent reviews for the film. (a collection of reviews here at metacritic). i'd say, if you can enjoy/tolerate 113 minutes of penis and sex jokes, you should go see this. regardless of your stance on the israeli-palestinian conflict.

witness protection idiot outs himself

after entering the witness protection program 13 years ago, former gun store owner, kkk member and militia informant wants his old life back. this idiot got the buffalo news to write a story about it.

uhhhh... if you are in the witness protection program, you probably shouldn't give a newspaper an interview and picture. you also probably shouldn't talk about your dear children. just a thought. also, are we supposed to feel bad for this guy? gee, i'm sorry you can't wear your white robe and sell guns to crazy rednecks anymore. that must suck. :(

news story: Viper Team militia informant risks life to reclaim identity
"Pappy Andrews wants his identity back. He gave it up more than a decade ago after helping federal agents break up a right-wing militia in Phoenix. Because he had put his life on the line and there were fears the militia or its friends might harm him, the federal government gave him a new identity. But now, Andrews, 49, is tired of hiding and wants his old life back."

give it 2 me

today was a rough day. i'm looking forward to it being over. good thing there's a new madonna video to make it all better.

Work with Your Classmates? What the Hell Kind of Exam Is This?
Professor: So as I've said the exam will be open book, and you can work with your classmates.
Student: Is it open book?
Professor: Ahhhh... I'm tired, and I need a martini.

a one scene play by lola firmingham entitled "kmart on market street"

Scene: kmart. small checkout counter. no conveyor belt. room enough to fit a basket.

lola firmingham enters scene, sets overflowing basket of items on small counter. clerk stands at checkout counter. stares at lola. clerk picks at her nails.

clerk: we don't do that
lola: excuse me?
clerk: we don't take stuff out of baskets. you do it.
lola: uh, really?

lola laughs, defeated... smooshes basket items onto small counter, dropping things. clerk returns. lola pays and exits

ahh philadelphia

moved into the new apt in philladelphia, but of course, not without mishap.

- we found it difficult to physically move into the apt. none of the keys worked. it was inconvenient. breaking into our apartment required the assistance of a locksmith and a very special security lady.

- i was sad to find a lack of hot water and a really complicated water heater system in the closet. the hot water issue is now resolved, but not without a weird alarm going off and a general fear that the apt was going to blow up.

- today i plan to explore the city. so far, philly has not been a disappointment for people watching. this city has oodles and oodles of crazies milling around. i'm not sure how philly has accomplished this, but it has maintained its sense of history while expanding its impoverished crazy population. coincidence? i think not.

radiohead covering ceremony via webcast

amazing!! this makes me very happy. merging radiohead with new order/joy division makes me very very happy. it combines all of my favorite "rock bands."

(trivia for non-nerds: joy division regrouped as new order after the suicide of lead singer ian curtis.)

best discovery ever?

netflix online allows you to instantly watch episodes of law and order: svu. it has made packing up my things all the more interesting.

right now i've skipped over the second season and i'm on the third, where they introduce ice-t to the mix. he's awesome and i'm convinced that he's one of the greatest rapper/actors ever. no one can do the crossover quite like ice-t

would you do it?

$500 a month, free gas to drive a billboard

"LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Misha Di Bono zips around town in her Infiniti sport-utility vehicle, breezy and unconcerned about the price of gas.

That's because she gets $500 a month -- plus free gas -- for turning her car into a rolling billboard for, the online recruiting company she works for."

so wrong in so many ways

happenings and goings on

right now, i am packing and cleaning up my room in brooklyn. the packing is fine. i don't actually have that much stuff. although, i do have an obscene amount of shoes.

tomorrow i head back to philly for a doctor's appointment. i am not excited. it is safe to say that i am sick of nj transit. but it is for the job, and i heart having a job. so it's fine.

early saturday morning, i am off to buffalo for father's day. buffalo is pretty gorgeous in the summer, so i'm excited to see it. also, i love flying jetblue. they are the hottness.

- i have not been eaten by the bears of northeastern PA

- arson and i found a lovely apartment in philadelphia on chestnut st near wash sq park. yesssssss. tentatively move date for philly is june 21. PA here i come. again.

- when i was just outside walking vince, i saw john norris of mtv news fame. he blended in nicely with the rest of the bedford-strolling hipsters.

- indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull is awful. horrible. hey george lucas, HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND? why would you write that? what kind of audience did you have in mind? it was definitely not me you were thinking of. and spielberg, do you have gambling debt? is that why you did this? yikes.

- i purchased a 1981 (third generation) walkman from a church auction in wysox, pa for $2. i'd call that a deal. and it still works!!

look at the beauty!! im a big nerd.

wilderness excitement

this weekend, i will be attending a post-wedding camping/bbq party. i'm particularly excited about this, as i will be reunited with lots of old friends from college. we have not all been in the same place since 2004, so i can't wait.

but i am nervous about the whole camping aspect. i would be a delicious snack for a bear.
