the sound quality isn't that great, but i do love youtube for having a live performance of this song. you even get a bonus performance.
p.s. i am handsome. no wonder i got so many kids.

back to school. back to school.
today was my first day back at school. i really enjoyed my first class, public policy and nonprofit organizations. the professor was really excited about the material and periodically pounded his fist on the tables in the classrooms. i love that he does that. lucky for me, i have another class with him tomorrow morning at 9am. glorious!

madonna's pepsi commercial
i freaking love youtube. this only aired a few times. it was pulled because of madonna's video for like a prayer, which was "controversial." here's the commercial and the video.

apartment hunting
in my recent search for temporary housing, i've encountered some ridiculousness that includes but is not limited to:
- an RPG gamer who looks like jesus and writes the most passive aggressive e-mails i have ever received. perhaps i will submit the e-mails to passiveaggressivenotes.com
- the nicest middle aged hippie you'll ever meet, with the most disorganized apartment ever
- the stereotypical bitter and overcompensating short guy
- a very nice girl with a house near the ghetto that has a lovely view of a graveyard. a winning combo?
- a lady who yells. YELLS ON THE PHONE. REFUSES TO USE AN APPROPRIATE CONVERSATIONAL TONE.
- if anyone is relatively sane and would like to house me for a few months, that would be great. thx.

absentee blogger
i'm sorry that i have been a bad blogger lately. however, in my internet absence, i've been having some serious fun in the real world. i just spent a very awesome week in nyc and i will be leaving for philadelphia tomorrow. august = travelpants.
some highlights from nyc:
- eats at geisha and hearth
- getting a tad sunburned at jones beach
- vodka drinks at mantra (where some dude claimed he would move to buffalo just to be closer to me. amazing. i laughed in his face. he didn't like that.)
- causing trouble at hotel rivington, again (apparently that is my favorite bar in nyc? i go there every time)
- a 4 hour interview that went quite well
- glorious variations on bawc including miniature black and white cookies and individual black cookies and white cookies.
- making new hilarious, sarcastic friends
- meeting Funkstörung in the lower east side (!!!)
- attempting to explain the fundamental existential differences between Kierkegaard and Nietzsche after downing some very strong G&Ts

i said no no no
love her or hate her, amy winehouse really has an incredible voice. it's so unique, and she has cut quite a few albums. i like her older stuff just as much as the newer stuff, but i am getting sick of rehab. her other stuff needs some respect. so... other stuff...
stronger than me

feist
i've recently been introduced to Feist, a Canadian singer-songwriter. she's opened for the ramones, worked with peaches and is also a member of broken social scene.
as for her songs, i love "still true" and "1234." (1234 seems to be getting a lot of commercial play lately) there's a whole lotta buzz about this girl. i think i might be a fan.
here's the video for 1234.

goodbyes, etc.
i am surprisingly sad to be done with my summer internship. i loved working in this sweet ass department and have had some very cool projects. sometimes i was bored and sometimes i was ridiculously busy, but overall i was very happy to be here. i'm a very lucky girl.

today may or may not be amusing
un-amusing things about today:
- whitney houston's "where do broken hearts go?" is stuck in my head and refuses to budge.
- the holiday website isn't working, so i have no idea what to celebrate. i feel empty.
- my left eye hurts and is glowing orange due to a contact lens losing incident that occurred last night. the ER doctors dyed my eye in order to look for said renegade contact. man, do i look creepy.
amusing things about today:
- work party at the pirates game in the luxury box with a dessert cart. holla!
- open bar in the middle of the day? sure. why not.
- since i am not allowed to wear contacts for a few days, i can now purchase a pair of super huge sunglasses to wear over my glasses. YES.

somehow ephemera is warping into an m.i.a. fanblog, oops.
excerpt from m.i.a. interview with village voice, Cleared for Takeoff
"At one point, when Interscope played 'Boyz,' will.i.am and Pharrell and Timbaland were all in one room, and I was just coming from India, working in a little studio with cockroaches and little kids using my blank CDs as Frisbees and shit," she remembers. "And then I sat in a million-pound studio with T.I. and Britney next-door. They were playing my stuff, and I felt like I've done this to the point where I can bring it to Interscope. And now they can hear what little kids in Australia sound like, which they're not going to actively go out and seek because everyone's in their comfort zone. And at the same time, I was like, 'If I can already do that, what's the point of working with big-name producers?' "
That's an odd statement from an artist so openly infatuated with American pop music, but Kala is more an interrogation than an imitation. On "Hussel," a sort of answer song to Rick Ross's Southern-rap hit "Hustlin'," she asks, "Why's everybody got hustle on their mind?"
"When I was in Liberia, you get into the huts, and little kids are listening to that shit," she says. "And it's cute to see them dancing to it, like, 'Wow, yeah, the 'Hustlin' song, that's so cool!' And then it's like, 'Actually, it's not fucking cool.' You have to give them something else as well. If it's about working or if you're talking about money, then I don't think that 99 percent of music should stress that. So at the time, I was just asking somebody that question. I don't want to live like that."
HUSSEL IS AN ANSWER TO RICK ROSS'S HUSTLIN?? holy shit. kala just gets better and better.
